Hot-rolled sheets are produced by hot rolling at a temperature above the recrystallisation temperature of the steel. This process gives the steel greater ductility, making it possible to produce large sheet sizes and thicknesses. Hot-rolled sheets have good strength and ductility, making them suitable for structural and engineering applications. They have a matt surface and can be used where aesthetics are not a key requirement.
Cold-rolled sheets are produced by cold rolling, which results in a material with high dimensional accuracy and a smooth surface. The process takes place below the recrystallisation temperature of the steel.
